Idea Generating
As a teacher and practising illustrator, I frequently encounter the question: What is my style?
My approach to every illustration project begins with the fundamentals—deconstructing an idea into basic shapes and a limited colour palette, then building up layers of visual complexity as needed. This ensures that the illustration serves the idea rather than being confined to a predetermined style.
Some ideas and stories call for detailed rendering, naturalism, shading, and texture—while others require simplified graphic shapes, abstraction, or bold, flat colours. I believe this approach fosters a more diverse visual voice, allowing each project to develop its unique aesthetic.
